Reflection on Readings and Social Bookmarking:
I am impressed when I get lost in locating relevant information on any topic I am currently interested in. Then I recalled the learning experience I had in High School in the late 80s when we were taught how to use the green "Readers Guides". That is how we did it without the Internet or that is how we did not do it. Second, I was very amazed I could read the chapter Defining our Field by Reiser as a pdf on an iPad. The pdf I discover by searching in delicious.com. Maybe I can return my text book in the original shrink wrapping.
The value I found in social bookmarking sites is that it takes the next step organizing what O’Reilly calls collective intelligence. The user is able to shift from what the author of a website feels should be linked to what readers or visitors value or take from their experience at a website. Next once I tagged or bookmarked a site I can connect with others that have also marked a site and view their collections and their tags.
Use in an educational setting:
This could be a tool that flattens any organizational structure. With the "folksonomy" of tags once an individual has discovered something of value. The value is placed on the content and less on who said or who found. Currently I am on a Technology Vision Committee for Western School District. Setting up a shared account for members to contribute bookmarks into would be a very efficient way for us to share our research.

The 1960s definition of instructional technology includes looking at instructional problems and examining feasible solutions provided by Finn(1960) ties nicely to Postman’s (1993) quote “What is the problem to which the new technologies are the solution?” The best solution may or may not include the new technologies. The problem then becomes how do we systematically improve and measure the performance of our students in both instructional and non-instructional areas a portion of a later definition.
Returning to the Technology Vision Committee there is a pressure coming from the superintendent, technology director, and administrators to level the technology playing field by becoming the 1st in Jackson County to adopt a 1 to 1 laptop program. 1 to 1 laptop programs are very enticing when presented by vendors looking for public dollars, however, their may be other cost effective alternatives that will produces the education improvements we are looking for. Currently my position is the improvement we are looking for may be in leveraging collective intelligences offered in the web 2.0 tools such as blog, wikis, social bookmarks, and youTube like video sharing sites.
