This is a website I created so we could continue online discussions we started at Technology Vision Meetings. Unfortunate the lively discussion has diminished as the group was absorbed into a Bond Planning group.
This one was a lot more fun to create. This is a sample 12th Grade Portfolio

Activity
This week, you’ll play with a service that, in my mind, makes it remarkably easy for you, your students, or just about anybody to create a highly functional website. This service is Google Sites This service provides you with a web-based interface through which you can create web pages with a great variety of interesting and useful kinds of functionality
To get started:
- Go to the Welcome to Google Sites page and watch their short introductory video
- Here’s another introductory video
- And some screencasts on using this tool
- Then click through some of their example sites linked below the video.
- Next, familiarize yourself with all the help available at Google Sites Help
- Now you should be ready to begin creating a website. Click Get Started here
Your assignment is to create a website that could be used as a resource for your work. It may be a classroom website or the central platform for a work-related project or some other use that you think would be helpful for you. (btw, when I say “webpage”, I’m talking about a single page; when I say “website”, I’m talking about two or more linked and related pages).
NOTE: using the page Edit and Save buttons can get a little tricky. Be conscious of what mode you are in – it can sometimes get confusing. Depending on which mode you are in, you get different options for editing that individual page or for making global changes to your whole site.
Here are the minimum specifications:
- At least two pages
- Use the Navigation function on the left to be sure someone can easily move from page to page
- At least one image on each page
- At least one Google “gadget” on each page (calendar, announcements – there’s tons to choose from
- Use one of the Site Themes for your pages
- Be sure to provide a clickable link to your website in a new blog posting along with a written description of your site's purpose and why you included the elements you did
Reading Reflection
While reading chapter 27, reflect on what you perceive to be your own areas of strength and what competencies you feel you need to work hardest to develop given your professional goals. State and describe at least three competencies you’d like to develop and why. I do understand that most of you are school teachers, not ID&T professionals, but certainly there is plenty overlap between these different types of roles.
Deliverables
- Post your reading reflection in Blackboard by Thursday night
- Post a link to your website in a regular posting on your blog by Friday night
- Post responses to at least two classmates’ reflections by Sunday night.
